Look Out Universe, Here Comes CainFrom the Crimson Files of 2chaotic.
Cain silently cursed under his breath. This would certainly be a hard mission, made even harder by all the chaos and destruction happening outside. The bombs and sounds of high-powered anti-air guns that surrounded the temple shielded what little noise he did make at least.
On paper it sounded simple. Sneak in to the Temple of Unitos, steal the Golden Sickle using the relic salvaged from a Crimson wreck.
The relic was a certain unique glove, taken from the hands of a general's body found in a Crimson Cruiser wreck. Scientists were stumped when the glove possessed no form of weaponry, considering that practically everything the Crimson ancients had made were directly or indirectly purposed for weapons. However, the cat was let out of the bag so to speak, when an on-ship Unitologist priest tried to bless the glove in order to "bring out it's glorious purpose". The glove grabbed the priest by the hand all on it's own, and turned the young priest into dried husk of a corpse in mere moments. It had literally drained the life out of him.
After testing it on numerous other imprisoned Unitologist, the glove had been deemed an anti-Unitology weapon.
Plans were set, and preparations made. The glove had to be tested on a Unitologist holy relic, and what better to use than the Golden Sickle?
Well, when you're facing the Unitologists, obviously, they don't leave important relics of Unitos unguarded. Especially something as important as the Glorious Sickle. It was said to contain the heart of Unitos himself, and whenever the Unitolgists came under attack, the glow of the Sickle marked the doom of the invaders, or so the legend goes.
Cain didn't really believe such nonsense, unlike most of his comrades who were screened for this mission. Maybe that was the reason he was picked. After all, when you need to steal a "holy" relic, who better to send than an atheist?
The Sickle was housed in the heart of the Temple, deep within the maze of security systems and armored monks who guarded it. One would have to have the best luck in the universe to sneak by all that undetected.
Or....a nice distraction.
The best possible thing could have happened the day of the mission. A powerful Unitologist decided his fellow believers weren't worthy of his presence anymore, and he backstabbed them in a most heinous way. With all the defenses of the Temple focused on preventing intrusion from the outside, Cain, who had already sneaked in the hours before, was almost able to causally stroll into the room where the Sickle lay.
"Too easy," Cain muttered. There had to be some sort of last defense around here, he thought, as he entered the enormous chamber.
The chamber was the size of an entire battleship's cargo area. It stretched for miles high, with beautiful ornate pillars dotting the ceiling. The floor was made of solid gold, that sparkled like the sun, prompting Cain to hide his eyes. And in the center of the room, high on a stair-step pedestal, sat the Golden Sickle, somehow floating ominously and glowing ever so slightly.
Cain suddenly grasped his arm. The glove upon his wrist was reacting to the Sickle. It literally dragged him towards it, pulsating in a blue hue with previously-unknown vigor.
As if on cue, monks armed with all sorts of fatal weaponry poured out from behind numerous pillars, all intent on the quick death of the invader. They shouted in unison, "Death to the enemies of Unitos!"
That was about the worst thing they could have done, apparently. The glove reared back of its own accord, and flashed brilliantly, temporarily blinding Cain.
The only thing he could perceive was the blood-curdling screams of hundreds of monks, all crying out in agony.
Then Cain's vision returned. All the monks...were gone. Just vanished into thin air.
Cain stared at the glove briefly, in awe of what had just happened. Then the glove violently dragged him across the floor towards the Golden Sickle.
The Golden Sickle slowly turned towards the glove, with the sharp point of it's curved blade pointed at Cain's head. In the blink of an eye, the Sickle shot towards Cain's mortal body, quite intent on showing just how mortal it was.
Right before it could though, the glove just flew all the faster, and caught the sickle in it's grasp. The sickle tried desperately to free itself, but the glove held tight. Lightning shot from the sickle, and the air started swirling around Cain, quickly turning into a malevolent vortex.
However, just as suddenly as it started, the madness ended, leaving Cain holding the now-dimmed Sickle in the glove on his hand.
He had done it. Somehow, he had stolen the Golden Sickle straight out from under the Unitology's righteous nose.
Suddenly, more armed monks started pouring into the chamber, pointing their guns at Cain. One of them shrieked, "HE'S GOT THE GOLDEN SICKLE! HOW CAN THIS BE?! NO MORTAL HAS EVER HELD IT AND LIVED!"
Cain wasn't hearing them though. He was focusing more on the sudden influx of raw power coursing through his veins.
He hadn't been a believe in all this religion stuff before, but when a slash of the sickle sent raw lightning into the crowd of stunned monks, Cain became a firm believer in the gods.
Thanks to the power of the sickle, the Crimson Nation spy deftly exited the way he came, slaughtering the ranks of Unitologists as he went. He made it safely back to his ship, and stealthily sailed away from the carnage erupting around the Temple since a rebel Battleship had started hovering above it.
Cain laughed manically as he felt the Sickle's power infecting his mind. With it, came a voice. It whispered, "How...dare you treat...me...as merely...a tool...mortal. I will...consume you." Then the whisper became a roar, "I AM UNITOS!" The Sickle tried again to free itself from the glove, and it started glowing again.
Another voice boomed back, "SILENCE WEAKLING. I, QUAX, HAVE FINALLY FOUND YOUR PITIFUL MANIFESTATION IN THIS REALM. YOUR SOUL IS MINE!"
The glove shined brightly in response, and the Sickle dimmed once again.
Cain laughed all the harder as a small fighter wing began following him. A wave of concussive force erupted from behind his ship, and slammed into the fighters, blowing most of them up, and wounding the rest.
They gave up their chase after seeing such power.
In Cain's mind, he could only think about what he had just accomplished as he left the planet's orbit. With the help of this Quax person and their glove, He had just stolen Unitos himself.
And he knew just what he was going to do....
Use Unitos's stolen power to convert his fellow Crimsons, and then force them to make him their leader.
The flag of Unitos would be flown. That much was sure.
But now...instead of a pure white...
The flag was bloodied. It was now Crimson.
